Description

Dear Alumni and Supporters of the Performing Arts at Hampton University:

Imagine Hampton students blossoming on an international stage, their talents amplified by exposure to new cultures and world-class training. This dream became a reality for five Hampton women last summer in France, an experience that ignited their passion and broadened their horizons. We need your help to give that opportunity to more students.

I'm Dr. Tiffany Renée Jackson, Assistant Professor of Music (Voice), and I'm incredibly excited to contribute to the rich legacy of Hampton University. My background as an opera/jazz singer, natural bodybuilder, music author, and writer of the one-woman show, "Rising of the Necessary Diva," has been enriched by my own international experiences, and I'm deeply committed to providing the same opportunity to our talented students.

When I arrived at Hampton, I recognized a need for greater opportunities for our performing artists to study abroad. Last summer, I had the privilege of teaching in Villeblevin, France, and brought five Hampton women with me. This immersion in French culture and artistic traditions was truly transformative. For instance, recent graduate, Nara Hughes, credits the experience with giving her the confidence and global perspective to secure an internship with the Disney College Program – a path she might not have pursued otherwise. The experience allowed her to hone her performance skills with world-renowned instructors and network with artists from across the globe.

To create more of these life-changing opportunities, I am producing my one-woman show, "Rising of the Necessary Diva," at Hampton on April 25th. This show explores themes of personal growth, resilience, and the power of art to overcome adversity, mirroring the journey our students will undertake as they step outside their comfort zones. All proceeds from the performance will directly fund scholarships for students to travel to France this summer. Eight students have already applied, and my goal is to raise $15,000 to offset costs for some and provide full scholarships to others. A gift of $5500 will cover program fees for one student, room and board, $1300 will cover round-trip airfare. Imagine the possibilities your partnership could unlock!

Your generosity will directly impact the lives of Hampton's rising stars and empower them to achieve their full potential. As a thank you, donors of $1000 or more will be recognized in the program for "Rising of the Necessary Diva” and will be invited to a special reception with our students prior to their departure to France.

With profound gratitude,

Dr. Tiffany Renée Jackson Assistant Professor of Music (Voice) Hampton University
